Epoxy flooring is renowned for its incredible strength and durability. However, that doesn’t mean epoxy flooring is maintenance-free. While it is true that epoxy floors require less care and attention than other flooring materials, proper cleaning and maintenance can help keep your epoxy floors looking (and performing) like new for a lifetime. Whether you have epoxy flooring in your home or business, these maintenance tips will come in handy.
For starters, sweep your epoxy flooring daily in high-traffic areas. This will remove dirt and grit on the floor that can cause scratching and wear over time. For low-traffic areas, sweep at least once a week with a dust mop. Be sure to remove rugs and furniture to remove as much dirt and grit as possible from the floor.
Use Specially-Formulated Epoxy Cleaners
Soaps, detergents, and wax removers that contain alkalis can damage your epoxy floors. When time comes to clean your epoxy floors, use only non-alkaline, non-acidic cleaners or those specially formulated for use on epoxy floors. Mop the floor with this cleaning agent at least once weekly followed by a clean water rinse. Be sure to dry your floors thoroughly to prevent streaks and dust lines and to prevent slip and fall injuries.
Polish Dull Epoxy Flooring
If your epoxy flooring has lost its original shine and luster, you can use an electric polishing machine to make it look like new. You can rent an electric floor polisher if you do not own one. If polishing does not restore the shine to your floors, you may need to have new epoxy coating applied to your floors.
